We thought we would give you some tips on protecting your well from freezing up.
If your well isn't covered with a well house then be sure to put 12 inches of insulation on everything above ground except the control box. Take special care to insulate all the fittings at the bottom of the tank. Cover with a tarp and be careful to secure the bottom of the tarp.
If your well is in a well house then still insulate if the walls aren't insulated. If the walls are insulated, put a heat lamp or a heater in the well house when the weather shows to be at 32 degrees or below.
If your well is in the garage then insulate with 8 inches of insulation and keep the garage door closed.
If weather shows to be 24 degrees or below, it would be a good idea to have water dripping from your faucet in the house in a small stream.
Although these tips are not 100% guaranteed against freezing, they are definitely highly recommended and highly effective. There are not any warranties for water well equipment through any manufacturers, due to freezing up, so take special care this winter with your water wells.
